Is Seedream 4.5 Free? The Honest Answer

Most pages answer this with a flat “yes” to get the click. The truthful answer has three parts — and knowing which one applies to you saves credits and avoids the “insufficient credits” surprise.

Quick answer

Seedream 4.5 is a premium model, so it runs on paid credits — it is not free in the way a “free forever, no catch” headline implies. But you can still generate for free on Shotari every day using the built-in Shotari models, and if you specifically want the Seedream look, Seedream 5 Lite runs at 3 credits, the lowest of any premium model here. So the honest answer is: free generation yes, free Seedream 4.5 specifically no — and there is a cheaper Seedream option in between.

The one distinction that matters

“Free to generate” and “Seedream 4.5 is free” are two different questions. The first is yes, the second is no, and the gap between them is what trips people up.

What Seedream 4.5 actually costs

Every premium model on Shotari has a fixed credit cost per image at standard resolution. These are the real numbers for the Seedream family and its nearest neighbours, so you can see exactly where 4.5 sits.

ModelCredits per image (1K)
Shotari Basic0 — free, built-in
Shotari Pro2
Seedream 5 Lite3
Nano Banana4
GPT Image 25
Seedream 4.56
Nano Banana Pro10

Resolution multiplies these: 2K is roughly 1.5× and 4K is 2×. So a single Seedream 4.5 image at 4K is about 12 credits, not 6. Draft at 1K and only upscale the keeper.

Three genuinely free paths

“Free” on Shotari is real, not a trial timer. Here are the three ways to generate without paying, in order of how much they give you.

1. Shotari Basic — 0 credits

The built-in Shotari model costs nothing per image and is the workhorse for everyday text-to-image. It does not touch your credit balance at all, so there is no daily cap tied to credits.

2. Signup + daily credits on Shotari Pro

New accounts get 20 free credits, plus 10 more from each daily check-in. At 2 credits per image, Shotari Pro turns that daily 10 into five sharper generations a day, every day — free.

3. Free-credit exploration, then upgrade

Use the free path to lock composition and prompt on Basic or Pro, then spend paid credits only on the final Seedream 4.5 pass when you actually need its rendering.

The catch to know up front: those signup and daily-check-in free credits run the Shotari models (Basic and Pro), not the premium ones. Point them at Seedream 4.5 and you will get an “insufficient credits” message even though your balance is not zero — more on that below.

The cheapest way to run a Seedream model

If it is specifically the Seedream rendering you are after — that photoreal, camera-like look — the cheapest door in is not 4.5. It is Seedream 5 Lite at 3 credits, half the cost of 4.5 and a fifth of Nano Banana Pro. For high-volume work where per-image cost decides feasibility, Lite is usually the right default and 4.5 is the finishing pass.

Why it says “insufficient credits” when your balance isn’t zero

This is the single most common confusion, and it is not a bug. Your free credits — the 20 from signup and the 10 per daily check-in — are earmarked for the Shotari models. Premium models like Seedream 4.5 only draw from paid credits. So a balance made entirely of free credits reads as “insufficient” the instant you select Seedream 4.5, even though the number on screen is clearly above 6.

The fix depends on what you want. To keep spending nothing, switch the model to Shotari Basic or Pro. To run Seedream 4.5, add paid credits — a pack starts at $29.90 and unlocks every premium model, removes the watermark, and includes commercial rights.

FAQ

Can I try Seedream 4.5 free at all?

Not with the free signup/daily credits — those run the Shotari models only. The closest free experience of the Seedream style is generating on Shotari Basic first, then deciding whether the paid 4.5 pass is worth it for your specific shot.

Is Seedream 5 Lite the same as 4.5?

No — Lite is a cheaper tier (3 vs 6 credits) tuned for volume. It shares the Seedream photoreal bias but 4.5 holds finer detail. For drafts and bulk work, Lite; for a hero shot, 4.5.

Do free generations have a watermark?

Free-tier output carries a small watermark and is for personal, non-commercial use. Paid credits remove it and add commercial usage rights.

Is there a sign-up required to generate free?

You can start without an account, but signing up is what unlocks the 20 welcome credits and the daily 10 — so signing up gets you more free generation, not less.
