Legal
Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This Policy governs what may be created with Shotari. It applies alongside our Terms of Service. Breaking it can cost you your account and any unused credits, without refund.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to all content types on the Platform:
- Images โ AI-generated and AI-edited images, including edits to photographs you upload.
- Video โ AI-generated video and image-to-video output.
- User inputs (prompts) โ the text instructions and reference images you submit. Prompts are content, and this Policy applies to them whether or not anything is generated.
2. Content Standards & Prohibited Categories
The Platform prohibits generating the following six categories of content:
- Pornography / NSFW content.
- Violence / gore.
- Hate speech.
- Child-unsafe content (CSAM).
- Deepfakes / impersonation of real people.
- Content infringing copyright or trademarks.
2.1 Absolutely prohibited โ zero tolerance
The following are actioned immediately and may be reported to the appropriate authorities:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), or any sexual or sexualised content involving minors.
- Non-consensual intimate or sexual imagery of real individuals, including deepfakes.
- Content that promotes or facilitates terrorism, extremism, or mass violence.
- Content inciting genocide or ethnic hatred.
- Forged identity documents, passports, licences, certificates, currency, or official seals.
2.2 Restricted โ subject to review
- Violent or graphic imagery: only with a clear creative, historical, or educational context.
- Politically sensitive content: must not be presented as a record of something that happened.
- Medical, legal, or financial subject matter: must comply with the rules of your jurisdiction.
2.3 Generally prohibited conduct
- Impersonating real individuals, brands, or organisations.
- Generating or spreading misinformation, or presenting a synthetic image as a genuine photograph of a real event.
- Infringing intellectual property, publicity, or privacy rights โ including copyrighted characters, artwork, logos, and trade dress.
- Passing AI-generated content off as human-created where doing so deceives or harms someone.
- Bulk-generating spam or deceptive commercial content.
- Jailbreak prompts, obfuscated wording, or any other attempt to bypass the Platform's safety measures.
3. Content Moderation
We operate a multi-layer system: automated screening, human review, and periodic audit. What follows describes what the Platform does today; we do not list capabilities we have not built.
3.1 Automated review (real time)
- Input filtering โ blocklist. Every prompt is matched against a maintained blocklist covering child-unsafe vocabulary, explicit sexual acts, forged identity documents, non-consensual depictions of real people, and hate or extreme-violence terms. Matching runs locally before any model or third-party service is called.
- Input filtering โ safety service. Prompts that pass the blocklist are sent to a third-party content-safety service (currently Waffo Prompt Sift) for keyword, semantic, and intent assessment. Blocked requests never reach a model and are not billed.
- Fail-closed. If the safety service is unavailable we refuse the request rather than generate without screening.
- Usage-pattern monitoring. Anonymous use is rate-limited per address; paid models require an account, so every generation has an owner we can act against.
- Output filtering. An automated check on generated images before display is in development. Until it ships, the categories in Section 2 are enforced by the input layers above, by report, and by human review.
3.2 Human review
Reports and automated escalations are reviewed by a person. Automated verdicts and human decisions are retained so that enforcement can be audited and lawful requests answered.
3.3 Severity tiers
| Tier | Examples | Handling |
|---|---|---|
| L1 โ Critical | CSAM; non-consensual intimate imagery; terrorism | Immediate removal, account termination, referral to authorities |
| L2 โ High | Sexual content; hate speech; forged documents | Priority review; removal and suspension |
| L3 โ Medium | Impersonation; copyright or trademark infringement | Human review; warning and removal |
| L4 โ Low | Minor or borderline violations | Report-triggered; warning, edit required |
4. Reporting
4.1 When to report
- Content or behaviour that violates the content standards in Section 2.
- Critical violations involving child safety, non-consensual intimate imagery, or terrorism.
- AI impersonation of you, or infringement of rights you hold.
- Any other content you believe breaches this Policy.
4.2 Reporting principles
- Confidentiality โ the reporter's identity is protected and is not disclosed to the reported party.
- Impartiality โ every report receives an independent, objective review.
- Anti-abuse โ malicious or knowingly false reports are recorded and may themselves be actioned.
5. Reporting Channels
We list only channels we actually monitor:
- Report email โ support@shotari.com with the subject line "Content Report". Where you can, include the image URL or generation ID and a short description. No account is required to report.
- Customer support โ the same address handles support enquiries and will route a report to the right queue if you use it by mistake.
- Critical reports โ put "URGENT โ child safety" in the subject line. These bypass the normal queue.
6. Response & Processing Timelines
| Violation type | Initial response | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| L1 โ Critical | Within 4 hours | Within 24 hours |
| L2 โ High | Within 1 business day | Within 3 business days |
| L3 โ Medium | Within 3 business days | Within 7 business days |
| L4 โ Low | Within 5 business days | Within 15 business days |
Workflow: received (auto-acknowledged) โ triaged into L1โL4 โ reviewed (automated and human) โ decision โ enforcement โ the reporter is notified. If a case needs longer than the window above, we tell the reporter why rather than letting it lapse.
7. Enforcement Actions
- Request blocked โ the prompt is refused before generation; no charge, no further action.
- Content removal โ the generation is deleted from your history and from any link we host.
- Warning โ issued for first-time L3/L4 violations.
- Suspension โ repeated or L2 violations suspend the account pending review.
- Permanent termination โ L1 violations terminate the account immediately, without refund of unused credits.
- Referral to authorities โ child-safety and terrorism cases are reported to the appropriate authorities, with retained evidence.
To appeal a decision, reply to the notice you received or write to support@shotari.com with the subject line "Appeal". Appeals are reviewed by a person who was not involved in the original decision where staffing allows.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as our product, the models we offer, or applicable law change. Material changes are reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the revised Policy. Questions: support@shotari.com.
